Nobody ever wants to get into a car accident in Florida. The good news is that many accidents are preventable through practicing good driving habits and being more alert on the road. In fact, in many cases, simply not doing something when driving is the best way for people to stay safe and avoid getting into accidents.
The U.S. General Services Administration notes that the number one cause of death for people ages 1-44 is car accidents. One of the top causes of accidents is distracted driving. Driving while distracted has quickly risen to the top of the list when it comes to dangers behind the wheel. It is actually more dangerous than drinking and driving. A distracted driver is anyone who has taken his or her eyes off the road, mind off the task of driving or hands off the wheel. When a person drives distracted, he or she is 23 times more likely to be involved in an accident.
According to Consumer Reports, there are a couple major things that people should not do when driving other than not driving distracted that can greatly reduce the chances of an accident. These include speeding and drinking. The biggest risk when it comes to speed is a reduction in reaction time. This basically means that a driver is unable to react soon enough to prevent an accident. Speed limits are set for a reason, so they should be observed. Drinking and driving has piles of evidence showing what a bad idea it is because of how alcohol affects the body.
